Wakanda Forever

The long awaited 2018 science

fiction and fantasy film Black

Panther surprised the public

by being one of the first Marvel

productions to have a

predominantly black cast. With

its striking fight scenes, superb

story-line and unpredictable

ending, it is an action packed adventure from beginning to end. Black Panther is a movie representing African warriors in a (made up) country called Wakanda. The purpose of the movie was to help overcome typical “Black stereotypes” and show the world how truly powerful Africa is and how truly delightful its culture is. Africa is the second largest continent of the world holding over 1 billion people speaking over 1,500 languages. Africa has a prodigious history and Black Panther embodies that nobility.

This incredible film tells the tale of a young man named T’Challa who, after the unfortunate death of his father, returns to his home country Wakanda to take his place as king. Soon enough, an enemy appears and the fate of Wakanda lies in T’Challa’s hands and so, soon enough, he releases his true power as Black Panther.

Starring well known actors such as Michael B. Jordan (Erik Killmonger), Daniel Kaluuya (W’kabi and also known from the popular movie ‘Get out’), Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia) and Chadwick Boseman (playing the famous Black Panther), it embraced the beauty of not only the country itself, but the people in it, in addition they expressed natural hair; a common thing many Black people and people who have it in general tend to hide.

What I found most memorable of this movie is the character designs and how in depth they went within their backstories and pasts. From Erik and his father’s to T’Challa and Nakia’s, it really engages the viewer and makes them want to learn more about the. I’d also like to point out how they’d avoided making any and every one of them ‘Mary Sues’ which I found made the movie all the more captivating. Additionally, I particularly liked the whimsical personality of T’Challa’s sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) because it gave the film a bit of humour and comedy. Black Panther manages to stand positively in intriguing viewers in the character development.

I would recommend this movie to everyone. I think that it gives people a better understanding of Africa and the people in it, which is refreshing to see. I found that, personally, this movie left a positive impact on the majority of people who’d viewed it. I think it’s an exceptionally great film and it leaves the audience with a different perspective on Africa. I think it’s lovely seeing famous sports stars doing the ‘Wakanda Forever’ sign and it really brings together our whole community.
